Target - Total Server Memory

Hallo All,

At the moment I am adjusting the threshold for target server memory and total server memory . In SOLARWIND , if total > target means BAD ( indication of memory pressure ) but based on E-book - Accidental DBA , if Total > Target means GOOD . (

The explanation :

"Total Server Memory (KB) and Target Server Memory (KB)

Respectively, these counters represent the total amount of memory that has been

allocated by SQL Server and the amount of memory that SQL Server wants to commit.

When the Target Server Memory (KB) counter exceeds the Total Server Memory

(KB) counter, the SQL Server process wants to commit more memory than is available on

the server, which can be a sign of memory pressure."

Now .. I am confused which one is correct ?

Please kindly advise

thanks a lot

cheers....
