I have been having issues with Appinsight for SQL displaying a down status on one of my databases (all other databases are fine) on my monitored SQL server. The error on all downed components is "Performance counter not found." This database was added after the server was imported into Solarwinds (not sure if this matters but thought I'd mention it). After reviewing articles here on thwack I have performed the following
-Checked to make sure that Auto-Close was not turned on.
-Deleted node and re-added it.
-Removed appinsight from the node and re-added it (using the "List Resources")
-I've never tried to add it manually because many users have advised against it.
-Verified the user credentials being provided for the SQL (to eliminate permissions issues i have it set to "sa" currently.
-Originally i was polling the server using WMI, but I've switched it to SNMP, and after that was unsuccessful I switched it back to WMI. (all credentials had the appropriate permissions.)
-Restarted the WMI service on SQL.
-After performing all of the the only other recommendation was to open a support ticket for the issue.
After opening the support ticket the technician instructed me to conduct a query on the target database. His response to the results is as follows
Hi Christopher,
Thank you for the update.
Regrettably those performance counters are on the SQL server itself, AppInsight for SQL only listens for it, I do hope you understand that there is no configuration in Orion that we can enable/modify to put those counters on the SQL server for that database, if they even exists, this is a scenario where you would need the expertise of a Database Administrator or seek assistance from Microsoft.
Alternatively you can opt to Unmanage that database as it is the only affected database, since the other databases have those performance counters, this way Orion will stop monitoring that specific database and will not send notifications/alerts for it. Simply drill down to the database details page of the database in question then click Unmanage.
Please let me know if you have further questions regarding this.
As I understand it he is stating that the performance counters are present and that I have to contact my DBA (we have none, I'm the closest thing to one) and essentially apply this performance counter to this database manually. As my knowledge is pretty limited on database administration I was wondering if anyone in the community might be able to help me out or point me in the right direction.
I have attached a screenshot of the error I see on the web console.
Thanks in advance for any assistance.
*note* I'm running SAM 6.2
