Create SAM group based on NPM custom properties

Is there a way to create a dynamic query that feeds a group where I can automatically include SAM applications whose *nodes* contain certain custom properties?

I'm still on this Quixotic quest to create a dashboard that displays both NPM nodes status, and SAM application status, where either a node showing as down *or* a SAM application will cause the top-level map to show as red/down.

I'm using groups, and using dynamic queries to populate the groups based on NPM node custom properties.  That works well.  I can create separate groups based on SAM applications.  Manually managing the group membership yields the results I want at the top level group and its corresponding map.  But I'd like to create a group based on SAM application, possibly using metadata, but don't want to recreate the wheel and manually copy the metadata from the nodes into the application metadata.

  • All nodes have a custom property describing its SLA (Internal, web, external, infrastructure, etc.)
  • Most of these nodes have one or more SAM applications applied to it (Exchange AppInsight, TCP port monitor, W2012 Services and Counters, etc.)

The nodes are grouped into Groups based on that SLA node custom property.  I'd like to have a group created that contains all of the applications on those nodes somehow based on the custom properties of the nodes.  I can't seem to find this in the Dynamic Query UI.

Any ideas?
