I have agents deployed to a number of my machines and would like to have agents deployed to all monitored machines as they seem to do a better job of collecting data than WMI or SNMP - I've had several application monitors that, for whatever reason, never fully reported back properly, so they were in an unknown state. Once I deployed the agent, they started reporting properly.
The problem is all except four of my nodes that have agents deployed are sitting at a 'Reboot is required to finish agent plug-in deployment.' status. I don't know what plugins were deployed and exactly when, but all servers have been rebooted in the last two weeks, and I haven't made any agent changes or changes to SAM that might update the agents in well over two weeks. Oddly, when I rebooted two of the nodes that I could safely reboot, they changed from 'Reboot is required' to 'Agent is running'.
So why are the nodes getting into this state? The last version change to SAM was the beginning of June to 6.2.1 and all servers have had multiple reboots since then. Some of them didn't even exist in June and were clean installs with the current version the SAM agent and plugins.
Near as I can tell, when the agents get into this 'Reboot is required' state, they stop reporting properly, so this issue is putting a damper on the idea of using the agents.
Does anyone have any thoughts?
