Ticket created without Tech Group assigned

Have seen this a few times when a technician creates a ticket and somehow not Tech Group gets assigned to the ticket.  We are a small shop, and only 1 Tech Group has been created with all techs assigned to that group.  When this happens, we don't see that ticket show up in the Group Tickets selection, but have to manually search for the ticket number.  My question is how to fix?  We can't edit the ticket and add a Tech Group assignment, perhaps we can modify the entry in the database directly?
